Welcome 2015

January 8th, 2015 Comments off

Darenth Farm welcomes 2015 with the news that we have been certified as a ‘Horse Discovery Center’ by the Maryland Horse Industry Board and the Maryland Department of Agriculture. In addition to our annual inspection for our license we were inspected a second time to enable us to be part of this new initiative. So far only 35 stables in Maryland have been included. For our existing customers, riders and boarders it means that we will continue to strive for excellence in all we do, while welcoming and encouraging those new to horses and riding.

This is our second winter with the indoor arena and we are so lucky to have it! There is far less disruption to the lesson schedule, the competition horses can practice their skills to be ready for the new show season and the hunt horses can maintain their fitness levels when riding outside is impossible. Lessons will be canceled, however, if the temperature falls below 30 degrees F.

Mary Macklin is holding a series of Winter Clinics. Details of these may be found on FB Darenth Farm page.

We will plan to hold a Farm Show for clients and invited guests and have 6 weeks of Summer Camps in 2015. Details will be posted soon.

Wishing you all a healthy and happy New Year.

Once again Darenth Farm is pleased to offer Summer Riding Camps. The weeks are dedicated to different riding abilities to make sure that each camper has the best possible experience and the chance to learn and play in a comfortable but challenging environment.

Experienced Riders are invited to join our Eventing Week taught by Advanced level event rider Mary Macklin and/or a general camp for experienced riders where we will incorporate trail riding, jumping and ring work taught by Sharon Dawson.

The Advanced beginner/ Intermediate weeks are for those riders who are at least ready to learn to canter and jump plus those who are still working on those skills.

The Beginner weeks are for those who only have the opportunity to ride once a year and for those who have never ridden. With safety always in mind we will help our new riders with many new skills and start a love affair with horses!

All campers will ride twice a day and get the chance to swim at lunchtime in our pool.

Please see below for dates.

I plan to have a week for experienced riders also July 21st. We will ride in the fields and on the trails, ride bareback, play games and take a trip to Corduras Park to ride into the lake and splash (maybe swim) with our horses! Cost $375.

Solstice Knight

November 23rd, 2012 Comments off

Solstice Knight full brother to Summer Reign arrived at Darenth Farm this week. We have been so pleased with Summer Reign that we decided to invest in a second! Bred by Dr Laura Reick the horses are Holsteiner /TB crosses capable of excelling in any discipline. I initially was thinking of foxhunting but currently Summer is being trained for the sport of eventing by Mary Macklin.

Solstice is just five months old and the pictures below show his journey from the farm where he was born to his new home at Darenth Farm. He was calm and composed through out and has settled very well with his new companions Bandit and Snowman. Emotionally it was a big day for him and he took a well deserved rest with Bandit watching over him.

June 9th Horse Show

June 10th, 2012 Comments off

A big thank you to everyone who helped to make our show such a success. Thank you to all the students who entered and rode so well and to all the parents for their support. To our Judge Val Dunn for her time and expertise (how she is able to choose a winner when all the riders look so good I don’t know, I’m just glad I don’t have to!). Thank you Annie for taking on the task of secretary and keeping everything in order, to Mary for designing our jump course and Alexis, Katie and many others for all your running around. Thank you Elizabeth for keeping everything running smoothly in the barn.

We were blessed with a beautiful sunny day, low humidity and a breeze and the picnic under the walnut tree was great with lots of good food and drink. Thanks to Christie for organizing a lot of this.

Thanks Nicki for the following photos. Click on a photo to enlarge.

Spring Hunter Pace

May 12th, 2012 Comments off

Congratulations to all the riders from Darenth Farm who competed in the Spring Hunter Pace hosted by the Carrollton Hounds. Hannah riding Buckshot and Megan on Bandit won both the Junior classes while Annie on Rae, Claire with Sienna and Elizabeth and Wrangler took 4th place in a very competitive open division. Claire also escorted Taylor and Daaghn around the course. This was Taylor’s very first attempt riding an outside course and she made us all proud. Katie and Willis were also making their debut and Elizabeth helped them make it safely around the course. All in all a very happy, successful day.
